The Many Uses of Travel
Travel is the motion of individuals between different distant geographic locations. Travel can also be one-way or round trip, with or without companions, and may be one way or round trips. Travel has been defined by transportation, where the traveler brings with him or her personal belongings necessary for travel, or by occupation, where the translator brings along tools or equipment needed for work, business or pleasure. The modern day traveler may choose from air travel, land travel, sea travel or a combination of these three options.
The modern age has brought with it a whole new genre of travel; what we call tourism. Tourism is a word, used to define the entire sector of activities relating to travel. There are many uses of tourism, such as for tourism and travel purposes, for example, sightseeing or guide tourism, where a tourist goes to a sightseeing destination, fishes or animals, or relaxes in a hotel or resort. Another common use of tourism is in the management of resources or waste disposal or other related activities. Let’s look at some ways in which tourism can benefit society.
The tourism industry is one of the largest global markets, and is a source of revenue for both government and private organisations. With over 70 million people being estimated to be travelling internationally every year, it is no surprise that the tourism industry is expanding exponentially. As more people are able to travel around the world, there is more trade involved. International trade in tourism goods and services has grown at about double the rate of gross domestic product over the last decade, reaching over US$ 53 billion in 2021. These days, travelling is not just a vacation for the rich and famous; now it’s the norm for anyone travelling not only to experience a different type of culture and scenery but also to earn money as a traveller too.
